Sundown gives back to KHS

This past fall, Sundown Landscape and the KHS mothers club teamed up and donated the labor and materials to landscape the new digital marquees at both entrances.

The Sundown team designed a natural stone border for this project, using a stone called ‘Shawnee snap’. This stone edge is set in concrete and custom cut to fit the designed parameters.

After the edge was installed, the plant material was put in place and the area mulched.

Hey everyone, just a few pictures of our most recent project

This wall was built using a brand new product called ‘Kirkwood Gold’. Supplied by Missouri Boulder and sold exclusively to Kirkwood material . Sundown Landscape is the first contractor in town to build with this stone.

Hi and hello from everyone at Sundown Landscape!! Thank you so much for checking out our blog. This blog is kept to display all of the jobs that we have recently completed or are currently working on, and to give people an idea of the type of work we do. Sundown is a full service landscape company, serving the greater St. Louis area for over 32 years. Our knowledgeable staff is dedicated to providing our customers with a professional and sensible solution for any landscape project. We strive to make each project a positive experience for our clients, and always treat each home as if it were our own.

This past summer we had an especially large and challenging project at a newly constructed home in Chesterfield. Our first challenge was our most important, controlling the water flow. This particular back yard sloped into a massive ravine that took on nearly all the runoff from the entire neighborhood.

As you can see, with all the water flowing in between the two trees in the top right corner of this picture. We needed to control the inevitable erosion that would work its way up the yard.

We decided that a natural stone watershed, built almost like a waterfall would permanently maintain the integrity of this hillside.

Time to get digging!

After prepping the area, we began building our shelves, and worked our way up.

The area below that would handle all the runoff was dug out and filled with rubble to slow the water.

The whole backyard was graded so that all the water would run to this point. Here is what it looks like all said and done.

The next project here was building a boulder wall that retained the back patio of this home.

As always we first needed to dig out the area.

Next we began our bottom rows, and put our landscape cloth and rock behind the stones to ensure proper drainage.

After the watershed and boulder wall were complete, the rest of this backyard really started coming together.

This project was one of those total transformations that we really love to do. Its great to have an empty canvas to work with, it also helps when the people your doing the work for make the whole crew lunch not once but twice!
